Choices

And now we choose

And choose again,

what we would see,

what we would be.

Yet what the mirror shows us

is reversed,

And what we see

we can never be.

The image of the world

unfolds before the body's eyes

And as we gaze,

we see

ourselves

alone

separate

and longing for the sight

of what we are,

But here we look in vain.

For what we are,

these eyes will never see

Because we are beyond.

And as we search this world in vain

amid the loneliness and pain

we, ultimately,

come to know that

all the choices that we see

are just between

what we are

and

what we can never be.
